Nann Nann
Nann Nann (Burmese: နန်းနန်း; born January 5, 1974) is a distinguished painter and modern sculptor from Myanmar. Throughout her prolific career, she has earned numerous accolades both domestically and internationally, solidifying her place as a leading figure in contemporary Burmese art. Nann Nann has received over 30 local art awards and more than 45 awards from international organizations, including the prestigious Myanmar Times Contemporary Art Award in 2004.
Early Life and Education
Nann Nann was born on January 5, 1974, in Yangon, into a family of artists. Her father, U Mya Aye, and her mother, Daw Nwe Nwei, were both well-known artists, which fostered her early passion for painting. From a young age, Nann Nann participated in children's art exhibitions, standing out with her exceptional talent. By the age of 8, she had already taken part in the second Women's Art Exhibition in 1982.
In pursuit of her artistic education, Nann Nann graduated with a Diploma of Fine Art from the State School of Fine Art, Yangon, in 1993. She further honed her skills by earning a Bachelor of Art degree in Sculpture from the University of Culture, Yangon, in 1998.
Awards and Recognition
Throughout her career, Nann Nann has been recognized both locally and globally for her contributions to the art world:
- 1978 – 1990: Awarded over 45 accolades from various international organizations and over 30 awards from Burmese government institutions.
- 2004: Honourable Mention at the Myanmar Contemporary Art Awards.
Her consistent achievements and unique artistic vision have earned her a respected place in Myanmar’s art history and beyond.
